Rebirth of a Life
Wall Installation. 270 baby socks, 270 aluminum rods, foam, wood, acrylic, 20’W x 14’H x 8’D.
The idea for this installation was created while pondering the next phase of my life. Realizing that having another child was unlikely, as well as impractical, was a difficult and heartrending truth for me. Circumstances in my life were leading me in another direction. So, instead of growing a baby inside my body, I decided to ‘grow’ a work of art, adding to it each day for 9 months, or 270 days. This work would represent an embrace of this new phase of my life, with its own set of trials and unexpected delights.
270 baby socks have been stuffed and painted individually, creating small ‘pods’. A large, red, central pod represents the Mother- both my physical and creative self. Sprouting from the Mother pod on varying lengths of aluminum rod are the 270 baby pods, each representing creative ideas being symbolically sent out into the world like dandelion seeds to propagate.
