Lea Anderson: Mixed Media Artist

As a parallel to the experience of human gestation (which takes approximately 9 months), I instead created this piece in 9 months (270 days). Two hundred seventy (infant-sized)socks were stuffed, gessoed, and painted one each day for 9 months. They were then installed on aluminum rods and inserted into the 'mother pod'- standing five feet high (my own height).

A series of 5 lithographs were made in collaboration at the Tamarind Institute, each print a portrait of a single pod. Also included is a video (Organic Wild Puffs) of each of the pods morphing one into another, demonstrating their symbolic interconnection.
